I Want to Breathe You In: Data as Raw Commodity

My master degree project aims to highlight the extreme methods that companies like Facebook, Apple, Microsoft, Google, and Amazon use to collect personal information to predict and modify our behavior — known as “surveillance capitalism.” The project has a norm-critical perspective, focusing on the new power structures that have emerged with the internet, and its consequences on society today and in the future.

The work explores new technologies such as Artificial Intelligence combined with graphic design at the intersections of art and technology.

With an AI called Avatarify, it was possible to manipulate and animate the portrait of each CEO of the so-called Big Five. By merging various techniques such as animation, 3D graphics, and graphic design, the video results in a hybrid media expression representing characteristics of the post-internet art movement — influenced by online meme culture as a tool for satire.
